Locally by using the CD and creating and using the three Setup floppies
If your computer has an existing operating system with support for CD-ROM, you can install Windows NT Workstation 4.0 directly from the installation CD. All you have to do is executeWINNT.EXE, which is a 16-bit program compatible with MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, and Windows 95. WINNT.EXE is located in the \I386 folder on the Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
CD. It performs the following tasks:1. Creates the three Setup boot disks (requires three blank high-density formatted disks)
2. Creates the $WIN_NT$. ~ LS temporary folder and copies the contents of the \I386 folder to it
3. Prompts the user to restart the computer from the first Setup boot disk
Locally by using the CD without the Setup floppies and booting to an operating system that recognizes the CD-ROM
MODIFYING THE WINNT.EXE INSTALLATION PROCESS
You can also modify the installation process by using the switch outlined below
/b Prevents creation of the three Setup boot disks. Create a temporary folder named $WIN_NT$. ~ BT and copy to it the boot files that would normally be copied to the three floppies. The contents of the temporary folder are used instead of the Setup boot disks to boot the machine when the user is prompted to restart.
Locally by booting to the CD-ROM, where the computer recognizes the CD-ROM as a boot device
On bootup, enter the BIOS and set the Boot sequence so that the system looks to the CD ROM Drive for its booting files. Change to the I386 Directory and run the setup program.
